I saw an old friend in the bank today
I hadn't seen this guy for years
When we saw how the years had changed us both
Well we laughed ourselves to tears
We both said that we had some time to spare
To get a coke and talk awhile
We found a place that was across the street
That was quiet but not much style

We sat there in the coffee shop
Two friends from years ago
As we talked about the lives we'd led and what we had to show
As we did it grew quite clear that we had chosen different ways
Those choices making us into the men who sat and talked today

We talked about the jobs we had
His great success and his career
He laughed and siad he'd thought there would be more
But his emptiness was clear
I told him all about my wife and kids
How God had helped our family
He sadly said his marriage hadn't worked
Then said he had to leave

We sat there in the coffee shop
Two friends from years ago
As we talked about the lives we'd led and what we had to show
As we did it grew quite clear that we had chosen different ways
Those choices making us into the men who sat and talked today

I never ever really thought before
How big a difference Christ had made
But as I watched my friend walk out the door
I thanked my God in Christ I stayed
